EXECUTIVE SEARCH PLACEMENT
Congratulations to Kalia King and our client A24, on appointing Kalia as Executive for their creative television division!
Most recently, Kalia served as EVP of Television at Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media, where she built the TV division from the ground up under a multi-year exclusive Disney overall. She developed, sold, and executive produced scripted and nonfiction series including critically acclaimed Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time (NatGeo), Eyes of Wakanda (Disney+), and Two Dragons (Hulu/The New York Times). Kalia spearheaded high-stakes IP plays — like bringing Ryan Coogler aboard for the highly anticipated X-Files reboot and locking down Southern Bastards with Bill Dubuque and Nia DaCosta — while also providing creative support on Marvel’s Ironheart. On the feature side, she oversaw the upcoming Living Single documentary and reeled in multi-Grammy winning superstar Usher for his seminal documentary chronicling his epic career.
Prior to Proximity, Kalia’s resume includes HBO, where she was a VP of Drama Series, overseeing Emmy-nominated shows like Lovecraft Country, True Detective, The Outsider, His Dark Materials, and Winning Time: Inside the Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. She brokered or oversaw deals and projects with industry titans like Issa Rae, Mahershala Ali, Nichelle and Malcolm Spellman, Alfonso Cuaron, Tessa Thompson, Adam McKay, Bong Joon Ho, and Cord Jefferson, as well as acquired NYT best-selling novel, The Vanishing Half, after an aggressive bidding war. Kalia got her scripted start at Universal Content Productions, where she rose the ranks, shepherding series like Mr. Robot and Homecoming. She began her career in Hollywood as a Casting Producer working with heavy hitters like Robyn Kass, Relativity Real, and ABC.
We are thrilled to have placed Kalia in this dynamic organization and wish her and our partners at A24 continued success!
THE LAST DANCE
We attended the last Sundance Film Festival held in Park City, Utah before it resumes next year in Colorado. Invited as guests by our board member; Sharese Bullock-Bailey who’s also Vice Board Chair for ITVS, who had their annual filmmakers & funders brunch during the festival. The event was a rally cry for the future of public media, with Sharese giving an inspiring speech about the way forward.
We attended the “Pull Focus” conference at The Impact Lounge convening with filmmakers, philanthropists, activists, change-makers, and investors on the state of the industry.
We also attended the wonderful programming offered by an array of organizations at The Solidarity House.
Overall, a meaningful and timely celebration of creatives putting art into the world at the event that has set the tone for the year in Park City for decades. Grateful for Main Street memories, and excited to see what Sundance will bring to Colorado next year!
CREATIVETYPES CELEBRATES…
Our first annual CreativeTypes Celebrates… event honored NYC lighthouses, Muhammida El Muhajir on November 3, 2025 at Manhattan Neighborhood Network.
Muhammida has a deep career history with a trajectory that peaked before the rise of “influencing” on social media, but rather laid the foundation for a sustainable impact in creative industries. She is considered an “OG” in the greater New York region and beyond, and we invited her community of creatives who have shared in, and been influenced by her work to celebrate the past, present, and future successes in her creative career.
In addition to celebrating her career, there was a private Manhattan premier screening of her latest short film "When Malcolm Smiled".
2025 ANNUAL BOARD RETREAT
Our first annual board retreat was filled with gratitude, inspiration, and radical rest with team members coming from far and wide (Miami to London), and tapping in from all over to ground us in revolutionizing pathways for creatives. Guest facilitators included Tsion “Sunshine” Lencho on all things start-ups, and Carolyn “CC” Concepcion (of c/o c), on creative partnerships. A beautiful kick-off to spring weekend in upstate New York, where we strategized, ate well, hiked, and visited with local Husdon area partners including Nina Z with stops to DIA Beacon, Big Towel sauna, and Hudson Chatham Winery.
